Germany’s crude steel output slides 28.7 percent in 2009

According to the statistics released by Germany's Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), in December German mills produced 2.28 million metric tons of pig iron, marking an increase of 38.9 percent year on year and up 2.42 percent compared to November, while the country's crude steel output amounted to 3.03 million metric tons, rising by 23.7 percent year on year and down 14.41 percent month on month.

Meanwhile, in 2009, Germany's pig iron output totaled 20.13 million metric tons and its crude steel production amounted to 32.67 million metric tons, declining by 30.9 percent and 28.7 percent respectively compared to 2008.
