Turkey’s automobile sales up by only 2.7% in October
According to the
Automotive Manufacturers Association (OSD) data,
Turkey's automobile sales amounted to 34'300 units in October, up by only 2.7% compared to 33'400 units sold in same period of last year.
Although a rise was recorded in October, the sales are behind the previous months' results. The automobile sales broke a record in May with 54'600 units.
In the first ten months of the year, automobile sales reached 370'466 units with a rise of 147% compared to the same period of last year. This figure includes 259'130 units of imported automobiles and 111'336 units of local automobiles. Imported automobile sales rose by 159% while local automobile sales increased by 124%.
Total sales in the
automotive sector rose by 14% from a year earlier in October to 57'155 units. However, total sales showed a decline of 5.6% against previous month. In Jan-Oct 2004 period,
automotive sector sales reached 616'417 units with a rise of 126%. In addition, light commercial vehicle sales rose by 103% to 200'346 units.
Automobile
production in October showed a rise of 22% on an annual basis and reached 39'293 units from 32'127 units. In the first ten months, automobile sales were also up by 65% to 373'460 units.
On the other hand, the
automotive market is expected to contract from November due to the increase in Special
Consumption Tax (SCT) on automobile sales.
In Jan-Oct period, 421'430 units of motor vehicles were exported. Exports rose by 45% compared to the same period of last year. Furthermore, automobile exports were also up by 47% to 251'704 units.
