According to the Turkish Automotive Manufacturers Association (OSD), in September motor vehicle sales in Turkey totaled 83,385 units, increasing by 78.1 percent compared to the same month of the previous year and up 125 percent month on month, driven by the expiry of the Special Consumption Tax (OTV) reduction on September 30.
In the month in question, the country's passenger car sales amounted to 52,162 units, climbing by 92.81 percent year on year and up 131.45 percent month on month.
In September, Turkey's motor vehicle exports totaled 59,589 units, declining by 25.7 percent year on year, but up 75.74 percent over August. The revenue generated by motor vehicle exports retreated by 28.9 percent, compared to September 2008, to $1.369 billion. In September this year, Turkey imported 43,077 motor vehicles, up 51.2 percent year on year and 105 percent compared to August.
As SteelOrbis previously reported, Turkey's motor vehicle output in September totaled 87,486 units, declining by 12 percent year on year and up by 76.62 percent over the month of August.
In the first nine months of this year, the country's total motor vehicle sales decreased by 16.5 percent to 540,855 units, while its motor vehicle exports amounted to 573,472 units - down 42.7 percent, and its imports reached 301,050 units - down 18.7 percent, all compared to the corresponding period of 2008.
