Taiwan’s iron and steel exports up 31.2 percent in August

According to the statistics released by the Taiwan Ministry of Finance, Taiwan's iron and steel exports in August amounted to $1.43 billion, increasing by 31.2 percent, while its metal product exports totaled $843.7 million, up 27.2 percent, both compared to August 2009.
Meanwhile, in August, Taiwan increased its iron and steel imports by 73.4 percent to $1.19 billion and its metal product imports came to $1.07 billion, up 36.7 percent, both compared to the same month last year.
On the other hand, in the January-August period of this year Taiwan's iron and steel exports stood at $10.7 billion, increasing by 37.7 percent, while its metal product exports rose 44.2 percent to $6.31 billion, both compared to the corresponding period of 2009.
In the first eight months of this year, Taiwan's iron and steel imports were up 96.6 percent, totaling $8.28 billion, while its metal product imports stood at $7.84 billion, climbing by 79 percent, both compared to the January-August period of 2009.
