Japanese automakers increase overseas output in H1

Japanese automobile production in September this year totaled 773,990 units, decreasing by 109,608 units or 12.4 percent compared to the same month of the previous year. September was the first month of decrease following 11 months of year-on-year increase in Japan's automobile output, according to the data provided by the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA).

Domestic sales in September this year in Japan stood at 446,687 vehicles, down 3.4 percent as compared with the same month of the previous year. In the meantime, the country's automobile exports in September amounted to 384,068 units, down by 93,843 units or 19.6 percent year on year, constituting the second month in a row of decrease following seven consecutive months of year-on-year increase. The revenue generated by these exports amounted to $13.1 billion, including $9.2 billion for vehicles and $3.9 billion for parts. This is a decrease of $2.4 million or 15.5 percent as compared with the same month of the previous year.

Meanwhile, overseas vehicle production by Japanese automakers during the second quarter of the calendar year 2012 totaled 4,087,695 units, according to the JAMA. The figure represents an increase of 147.5 percent compared to the same period of 2011. The association noted that the outcome reflects expanded local production in all regions during the quarter in question.
 
For the first half of 2012, overseas production by Japanese automakers stood at 8,235,833 units, with an increase of 127 percent compared to the first half of 2011.
 
In the January-June period of this year, Japanese automakers' vehicle production in Asia totaled 4,410,827 units, up 119.3 percent, its production in North America was 2,248,428 units, up 156.8 percent, in the US alone Japanese vehicle output was 1,752,476 units, up 154.9 percent, while in the EU Japanese automakers' vehicle production amounted to 733,032 units, up 113.7 percent, all compared to the same period of 2011.
