Japanese automobile production in October this year totaled 792,166 units, decreasing by 112,080 units or 12.4 percent compared to the same month of the previous year. October was the second consecutive month which saw a decrease in Japan's automobile output on year-on-year basis, according to the data provided by the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA).
Domestic sales in October this year in Japan stood at 359,333 vehicles, down 5.7 percent as compared with the same month of the previous year. In the meantime, the country's automobile exports in October amounted to 384,774 units, down by 87,248 units or 18.5 percent year on year, constituting the third consecutive month of year-on-year decrease. The revenue generated by these exports amounted to $12.9 billion, including $9.15 billion for vehicles and $3.7 billion for parts. This is a decrease of $1.6 million or 10.9 percent as compared with $14.4 billion recorded for the same month of the previous year.
Meanwhile, JAMA said it welcomes the decision regarding talks to be launched on an envisaged EU-Japan free trade agreement (FTA), reached at the meeting of the Council of the European Union on November 29, stating that the Japanese automobile industry intends to do everything in its capacity to advance the dialogue in this regard at the industry level, and stands ready to firmly support the efforts of the Japanese government in this initiative.
