Japan’s auto output declines by 6.5 percent in April

Japanese automobile production in April this year totaled 747,730 units, decreasing 9.2 percent month on month and down by 51,740 units or 6.5 percent compared to the same month of the previous year, indicating a year-on-year fall for the eighth consecutive month, according to the data provided by the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA).

Domestic sales in April this year in Japan stood at 667,129 vehicles, falling 45.3 percent from March and up 1.5 percent as compared with the same month of the previous year. In the meantime, the country's automobile exports in April amounted to 397,813 units, rising 2.4 percent month on month but down by 4,576 units or 1.1 percent compared to April 2012 and decreasing on year-on-year basis for the ninth consecutive month. The revenue generated by these exports amounted to $12.7 billion, including $9 billion for vehicles and $3.7 billion for parts. This is a decrease of $938 million or 6.9 percent as compared with $13.6 billion recorded for the same month of the previous year.
