In the first five months of the current year, new car registrations totaled 5,431,921 units in the European Union (EU), with an increase of 6.9 percent year on year, according to the latest figures issued by the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA). In May this year, EU new car registrations increased by 4.5 percent year on year to 1,093,448 units and were up 0.4 percent compared to April.
In the first five months of this year, the UK (+11.6 percent), Germany (+3.4 percent), Italy (+3.2 percent) and France (+3.0 percent) were the major EU markets which recorded increases in new car registrations on year-on-year basis.
Meanwhile, in May most EU markets posted year-on-year growth in new car registrations, with the UK up 7.7 percent, Germany up 5.2 percent and France up 0.3 percent, while Italy indicated a decrease of 3.8 percent.
