EU new car registrations up 4.6 percent in April

In the first four months of the current year, new car registrations totaled 4,336,013 units in the European Union (EU), with an increase of 7.4 percent year on year, according to the latest figures issued by the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA). In April this year, EU new car registrations increased by 4.6 percent year on year to 1,089,226 units and were down 24.8 percent compared to March. 

In the first four months of this year, the UK (+12.5 percent), Italy (+5.0 percent), France (+3.7 percent) and Germany (+2.9 percent) were the major EU markets which recorded increases in new car registrations on year-on-year basis.

Meanwhile in April, most EU markets posted year-on-year growth, with the UK up 8.2 percent, France up 5.8 percent and Italy up 1.9 percent, while Germany indicated a decrease of 3.6 percent.
