In the past seven days, prices for Chinese import 0.019" x 48" G90 hot dipped galvanized (HDG) coil have softened by approximately $1.00 cwt. ($22/mt or $20/nt), and it’s been rumored that Indian mills are willing to negotiate deals between $1.00-$1.50 cwt. ($11-$17/mt or $10-$15/nt) below current offers as a means of enticing US buyers to book tons. “Indian traders took note that US steel import tonnages dipped by about 5 percent in the month of August from levels seen in July,” according to SteelOrbis sources, “and they’re hoping that by offering discounts, they’ll be able to regain some of that lost ground.” At the same time, a number of US-based traders are hesitant to initiate a flurry of order placement, especially in light of the ongoing trade case rumors.
