For the most part, pricing for US import hot dipped galvanized (HDG) coil have remained steady in the past week, although prices for import Galvalume coil have shifted slightly.
Offer prices for 0.012”x40.875” G30 and 0.019”x48” G90 coil from China and India are steady, albeit “quite flexible,” according to sources, while offer prices for 0.019x41.5625 Gr80/AZ55 from several countries have softened by approximately $1.00 cwt. on the low end, which allows mills in those areas to compete with lower-priced offers from competitors.
At the same time, no one is doing a whole lot of buying, according to sources. Import tonnages last month were substantial, since everyone thought that the tons booked in December were going to be the last big “hurrah” before a trade case was filed. There is still quite a bit of material at the docks, according to trader sources, and supply is still outpacing demand.
