Market players within the US domestic and import hot dipped galvanized (HDG) coil markets have confirmed the past seven days have been relatively uninteresting. Prices remain steady, according to SteelOrbis sources, but there is still a lot of coated steel that’s hanging around the docks at US Gulf coast ports. US import tonnages for March and April were high, at 331,569 mt (census data) and 238,704 mt (license data), respectively, and sources have said that while demand is still pretty good, it will take quite a bit of time to work through the supply glut.
