US automakers see higher sales in July

The "Big Three" Michigan-based US automakers all reported improved sales year-on-year in July.

Chrysler Group LLC said retail sales grew 33 percent in July, and US sales of 112,026 units represented a 20 percent year-over-year gain. Sales in July 2011 also marked Chrysler's best July sales since 2007.

General Motors Co. reported 214,915 total sales in July, an 8 percent gain compared to July 2010. July retail sales were also up 1 percent versus June.

Driven by 13 percent higher Ford brand sales, Ford Motor Company sold 180,865 units in July, up 9 percent versus a year ago.
