Turkish motor vehicle sales up two percent in January

According to the Turkish Automotive Manufacturers Association (OSD), in January this year motor vehicle sales in Turkey totaled 21,047 units, increasing by two percent compared to the same month of the previous year but down 77 percent month on month.

In the month in question, the country's passenger car sales amounted to 12,594 units, declining by 4.4 percent year on year and down 77.97 percent month on month.

In January, Turkey's motor vehicle exports totaled 60,000 units, rising by 86.2 percent year on year, but down 12 percent over December 2009. The revenue generated by motor vehicle exports surged by 52.8 percent, compared to January 2009, to $1.28 billion. In January this year, Turkey imported 12,264 motor vehicles, which is 10.5 percent higher compared to January 2009.

As SteelOrbis previously reported, Turkey's motor vehicle output in January totaled 76,565 units, increasing by 97.5 percent year on year but down by 18.35 percent over the month of December.
