Turkish motor vehicle sales rise 37 percent in January-August

According to the Turkish Automotive Manufacturers Association (OSD), in the first eight months of 2011 motor vehicle sales in Turkey totaled 572,080 units, rising by 37 percent as compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.

In the January-August period of this year, Turkey's passenger car sales amounted to 372,139 units, rising by 38 percent year on year.

In the given period, Turkey's motor vehicle exports came to 534,179 units, rising by 6.1 percent year on year, while its passenger car exports amounted to 295,091 units, rising slightly by 0.1 percent compared to the same period last year. The revenue for these export sales totaled $7.8 billion for total motor vehicle exports, rising by 13.5 percent, while the revenue of passenger car exports totaled $4.35 billion, rising by 5.5 percent, both compared to the first eight months of 2010.

In the first eight months of 2011, Turkey's motor vehicle imports increased by 39 percent, while its passenger car imports rose by 37.3 percent year on year, totaling 338,624 units and 256,018 units respectively.
