According to the monthly statistics released by the Turkish
Automotive Manufacturers' Association (OSD), in 2011 motor vehicle sales in
Turkey totaled 910,867 units, rising by 14.8 percent as compared to 2010.
The expansion of the market resulted from the strong demand for passenger cars, which accounted for 65.2 percent of the total market. In 2011, the market for passenger cars grew by 16.4 percent to 593,519 units compared to 2010.
In 2011,
Turkey's motor vehicle exports came to 790,966 units, rising by five percent year on year, while its passenger car exports amounted to 442,674 units, rising by one percent compared to 2010. The revenue for these export sales reached $18.5 billion for total motor vehicle and component exports, rising by 16 percent, while the revenue of passenger car exports totaled $6.5 billion, rising by 11 percent, both compared to 2010.
During the year, commercial vehicle exports totaled 348,292 units, while tractor exports reached 10,146 units, with respective increases of 11 percent and 10 percent year on year.
In 2011,
Turkey's motor vehicle imports increased by 15.7 percent, while its passenger car imports rose by 16.9 percent year on year, totaling 538,532 units and 414,031 units respectively.
On the other hand, in
Turkey the capacity utilization rate in 2011 was 76 percent for the overall domestic motor vehicle industry, while it was 100 percent for tractors and 76 percent for light vehicles including passenger cars, pick-ups and minibuses.
