According to the Turkish
Automotive Manufacturers Association (OSD), in January of the current year motor vehicle sales in
Turkey totaled 31,196 units, falling by 34.5 percent as compared to the corresponding month of the previous year.
In January this year,
Turkey's passenger car sales amounted to 21,077 units, falling by 29 percent year on year.
In the given month,
Turkey's motor vehicle exports came to 59,778 units, falling by six percent year on year, while its passenger car exports amounted to 32,011 units, falling by 13 percent compared to the same month last year. The revenue for these export sales reached $1.4 billion for total motor vehicle and component exports, rising by five percent, while the revenue for passenger car exports totaled $500 million, falling by four percent, both compared to the first month of 2011.
In January 2012,
Turkey's motor vehicle imports decreased by 34.6 percent, while its passenger car imports fell by 32.7 percent year on year, totaling 18,343 units and 13,887 units respectively.
On the other hand, in
Turkey the capacity utilization rate in the period in question was 65 percent for the total motor vehicle industry, while it was 82 percent for tractors and 65 percent for light vehicles including passenger cars, pick-ups and minibuses.
