On March 10, Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) announced the rate of capacity utilization of Turkish manufacturing industry in February 2009.
Accordingly, Turkey's rate of capacity utilization, which is calculated by production value, has decreased by 15.5 percent from 79.3 percent in February of 2008 to 63.8 percent in February of 2009. The rate of capacity utilization in January 2009 decreased by 16.5 to 63.8 percent compared with the level of year-ago period. The 63.8 percent capacity utilization rate was registered as the lowest level for 18 years.
TÜIK said that, the first reason for not working in full capacity in February 2009 was the shortage of demands. Shortage of demands in domestic market was 49.8 percent, and in foreign market was 28.9 percent, while financial problems 4.0 percent, shortage of raw domestic materials was 3.1 percent, shortage of raw imported 1.6 percent, and labor problems was 1.2 percent.
The data shows that production quantity, which was increased by two percent in January 2009, hasn't shown a change in February compared with previous month.
