Turkey’s steel import value rises 29.2 percent in June

According to the provisional foreign trade statistics compiled by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) and the Turkish Undersecretariat of Customs, in June this year Turkey's iron and steel imports totaled $1.76 billion, increasing by 29.2 percent year on year and up 11.2 percent over May, while imports of articles of iron or steel rose by 17.1 percent compared to May 2010 and were down 3.03 percent month on month, amounting to $217.80 million.
 
Meanwhile, in the first half of 2011 the country's iron and steel imports stood at $9.7 billion, while its imports of articles of iron or steel amounted to $1.26 billion, increasing by 24.2 percent and up 40.6 percent respectively, both compared to the corresponding period of 2010.
