According to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), in August this year Turkey's flat steel imports, including hot rolled, cold rolled, coated and narrow strip steel, rose by 9.6 percent compared to the previous month and were up 5.6 percent compared to August 2011, totaling 452,202 metric tons. The value of these imports amounted to $321.4 million, increasing by 7.2 percent as compared to July this year and down 10.6 percent year on year.
Meanwhile, in the first eight months of the current year Turkey's flat steel imports amounted to 3.3 million metric tons, decreasing 4.1 percent compared to the corresponding period of 2011.
In the first eight months, Turkey's hot rolled flat steel imports from Ukraine amounted to 741,812 metric tons, increasing by 14.2 percent year on year. Turkey's second biggest source of hot rolled flat steel imports in January-August this year was Russia with 567,180 metric tons, down 37.2 percent compared to the same period of 2011.
