According to the provisional foreign trade statistics compiled by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) and the Turkish Undersecretariat of Customs, in July this year Turkey's iron and steel imports totaled $1.65 billion, decreasing by 15.3 percent year on year and down 5.6 percent compared to June. Iron and steel ranked fourth among the most imported products of the country in the given month.
Meanwhile, in July imports of articles of iron or steel, which ranked 17th among the products with the highest import value, fell by 20.8 percent compared to July 2011, but were up three percent month on month, amounting to $193.3 million.
In the first seven months of 2012, the country's iron and steel imports stood at $11.85 billion, increasing by 1.6 percent compared to the corresponding period of 2011, while its imports of articles of iron or steel amounted to $1.28 billion, down by 14.8 percent year on year.
