According to the provisional foreign trade statistics compiled by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) and the Turkish Undersecretariat of Customs, in the first half of 2010, the country's iron and steel exports stood at $4.15 billion, while its iron and steel imports amounted to $7.81 billion, increasing by 7.4 percent and up 57.5 percent respectively, both compared to the corresponding period of 2009.

Turkey's iron and steel exports totaled $869.84 million in value, increasing by 41.5 percent year on year and up 5.66 percent over the previous month, while exports of articles of iron or steel rose by 2. 3 percent compared to June 2009 and were up 5.88 percent month on month, amounting to a value of $406.19 million.

Turkey's iron and steel imports totaled $1.36 billion, increasing by 36.3 percent year on year and down 20.11 percent over May, while imports of articles of iron or steel rose by 43.1 percent compared to June 2009 and were up 16.41 percent month on month, reaching $186.2 million.

Turkey was a net importer of iron and steel, with its net imports totaling $877.48 million, compared to net imports of $385.55 million in June 2009.
