Turkey’s CUR up in March

Based on data released by Turkey's State Institute of Statistics (DIE), the country's capacity utilization rate (CUR) rose from 75.8% in February 2005 to 80.3% in March 2005. However, the March 2005 figure is lower than the 82.1% CUR posted in March 2004. The slowdown in domestic and overseas demand, financial impossibility and a raw material shortage were primary reasons that producers were not able to operate at full capacity in March. Public sector CUR surged from 68% in February to 82.6% in March. Like the overall CUR, this figure falls short of the public sector's 86.6% CUR for March 2004. Private sector CUR rose from 76.5% in February to 79.6% in March.
