Turkey’s auto sales decline 10 percent in 2014

In 2014, motor vehicle sales in Turkey totaled 807,486 units, decreasing by 10 percent year on year, according to the Turkish Automotive Manufacturers Association (OSD). Meanwhile, in December last year motor vehicle sales in the country saw an increase of 14 percent compared to the same month of 2013, totaling 153,941 units. In 2014, passenger car sales in Turkey amounted to 587,331 units, decreasing by 12 percent year on year. In December, passenger car sales increased by nine percent year on year to 110,054 units.
 
On the other hand, in 2014 Turkey's motor vehicle exports came to 885,180 units, up seven percent, while its passenger car exports amounted to 581,993 units, up 20 percent, both year on year. The country exported 269,995 small trucks in the period in question, down 10 percent year on year. Revenues from total motor vehicle and component exports in 2014 amounted to $22.8 billion, rising by six percent, while the revenue from passenger car exports totaled $7.3 billion, rising by six percent, both on year-on-year basis.
 
In 2014, Turkey's total motor vehicle imports amounted to 522,842 units, while passenger car imports totaled 429,982 units, decreasing by 15 percent and 17 percent year on year, respectively.
