Motor vehicle sales in Turkey up 9.23 percent in 2013

In 2013, motor vehicle sales in Turkey totaled 893,124 units, rising by 9.23 percent year on year, according to the Turkish Automotive Manufacturers Association (OSD). Meanwhile, in December last year motor vehicle sales in the country saw a rise of 11.96 percent compared to the same month of 2012, totaling 135,596 units.

In 2013, passenger car sales in Turkey amounted to 664,655 units, rising by 19.48 percent year on year. In December, passenger car sales rose by 24.95 percent year on year to 101,199 units.

On the other hand, in 2013 Turkey's motor vehicle exports came to 828,471 units, rising by 13.50 percent, while its passenger car exports amounted to 484,504 units, rising by 17.32 percent, both year on year. The country exported 300,765 small trucks in the period in question, up 2.79 percent year on year. Revenues from total motor vehicle and component exports in 2013 amounted to $21.56 billion, rising by 11.63 percent, while the revenue from passenger car exports totaled $6.86 billion, rising by 12.98 percent, both compared to 2012.

In 2013, Turkey's passenger car imports rose by 26.33 percent year on year to 517,527 units, while Turkey's total motor vehicle imports amounted to 615,609 units, rising by 20.30 percent year on year.
