Steel shipments slump at US and Canadian service centers

The Metals Service Center Institute (MSCI) reported Tuesday that metal shipments in March 2013 decreased at rates that were greater than the declines registered in January and February.

Steel shipments from US service centers decreased 9.9 percent from March 2012. Steel product inventories decreased by 4.2 percent from March a year ago.

Meanwhile, Canadian service center steel shipments in March 2013 decreased 18 percent from the same month in 2012. Steel product inventories increased by 1.1 percent from March a year ago and decreased by 2.2 percent from last month.
