Automaker Nissan announced on Monday it will invest BRL 750 million at its Resende plant, in the city of same name in the state of Rio de Janeiro, to produce a new model, the Kicks, a compact SUV.

According to the company, the Resende plant will be expanded in order to produce the new model and will employ about 600 new people at the site.

The company’s CEO, Carlos Ghosn, said that despite being a global model, Brazil will be the first country to produce the model.

Nissan’s president in Brazil, François Dossa, said about 74 percent of the car will be produced in Brazil. The automaker didn’t disclose an exact date to start producing the new model, however, it is expected to be commercialized in Brazil this year.
