With a high number of stoppages at production plants, automotive production (cars, trucks and buses) in Brazil reached 178,900 units in April, 19.4 percent less than in March and 3.9 percent less than in April 2022.

Domestic sales totaled 160,700 units in April, 19.2 percent less than in March and 9.2 percent more than in April 2022, while exports reached 34,000 units, 24 percent less than in March and also 24 percent less than in April 2022.

Domestic sales include a large share of corporate sales, equivalent to 50 percent of the total, including car rentals, taxi fleets, corporate fleets, sales to the government and agriculture associations, pointing to a reduced number of acquisitions by individuals, reflecting problems related to the availability of credit loans and high interest rates.

According to Marcio de Lima Leite, president of the sector association Anfavea, nine plants have halted operations during April, with direct impact on the number of units produced.

He added that “even with lower availability of credit loans and high interest rates, the domestic sales have reached 633,000 units during the first four months of the year, 14 percent more than in the same period of 2022.”
