New motor vehicle registrations in Turkey up 17.5% in May over Apr

According to the statistics released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), in May this year new motor vehicle registrations in Turkey amounted to 102,899 units, increasing by 17.5 percent month on month and down 10 percent year on year.

New passenger car registrations in May totaled 51,403 units, increasing by 20 percent as compared to the previous month and down 9.1 percent year on year. Passenger cars accounted for 50 percent of total registrations. Small truck registrations in May, on the other hand, increased by 14 percent month on month and were down 24.1 percent year on year, amounting to 18,118 units. Small truck registrations constituted 17.6 percent of total registrations.

In the first five months of 2012, new motor vehicle registrations in Turkey amounted to 451,041 units, with a 16.4 percent decrease compared to the same period in 2011.
