Data released by the International Iron and Steel Institute (IISI) show that global crude steel production for July 2007 rose 5.3 percent year on year to 109.9 million metric tons.
China is again the largest steel-producing country with crude steel production of 41.3 million metric tons in July, an increase of 14.5 percent from a year earlier. Total production in the Asian region amounted to 61 million metric tons, up 9.4 percent on a year ago.
Germany produced four million metric tons of crude steel in July 2007, a slight decrease of 0.1 percent year on year. Italy registered a crude steel output for July 2007 of 2.7 million metric tons, up 0.1 percent on the figure for July 2006. France produced 1.5 million metric tons, a decrease of 10.2 percent compared to the same month in 2006. Production in the UK was 1.2 million metric tons, 0.3 percent higher than July 2006.
Brazil produced 2.9 million metric tons of crude steel in July, an increase of 5.3 percent compared to July 2006.
Turkey's crude steel production in July rose eight percent year on year to 2.2 million metric tons. Total production in the Other Europe region was 2.6 million metric tons, an increase of 9.9 percent year on year.
