Data released by the International Iron and Steel Institute (IISI) show that global crude steel production for September 2007 rose 6.2 percent year on year to 110.1 million metric tons.
China is again the largest steel producing country with crude steel production of 41.5 million metric tons in September, an increase of 14.8 percent from a year earlier. Total production in the Asian region amounted to 61.5 million metric tons, up 10.9 percent on a year ago.
Germany produced four million metric tons of crude steel in September 2007, showing an increase of one percent year on year. Italy produced an estimated 2.7 million metric tons in September 2007, marking a decrease of 0.2 percent year on year. France produced 1.5 million metric tons, a decrease of 3.8 percent compared to the same month in 2006. Production in the UK was 1.1 million metric tons, 1.5 percent higher than September 2006. Total production in the EU-15 amounted to 14.8 million, up 2.5 percent on a year ago.
Brazil produced 2.9 million metric tons of crude steel in September 2007, an increase of four percent compared to September 2006.
Turkey's crude steel production in September rose 4.2 percent year on year to an estimated 2.1 million metric tons. Total production in the Other Europe region was 2.4 million metric tons, a decrease of 1.4 percent year on year.
The USA produced 8.2 million metric tons in September 2007, registering a three percent decrease year on year.
