In August this year, new passenger car registrations in the German market contracted by five percent year on year to 214,100 units, and were down 15.4 percent compared to July, according to the data released by the German Association of the
Automotive Industry (VDA). Meanwhile, in the first eight months of this year
Germany's new car registrations fell seven percent year on year, totaling 1,969,900 units. Matthias Wissmann, president of the VDA, stressed, "The stabilization on the domestic passenger car market continued into August. It is good news that incoming orders from
Germany have increased again by two percent."
However, during August this year a total of 293,900 passenger cars were exported, up three percent compared to August 2012 but down 18.4 percent month on month. In the first eight months of the year, German passenger car exports amounted to 2,740,100 units, decreasing two percent compared to the same period last year.
According to the VDA, in August 397,150 passenger cars rolled off
production lines, which represents a year-on-year increase of nine percent and a 10.7 percent decrease from July. This strong growth is, however, partly a result of the varying timing of factory holidays. German car output in the first eight months of 2013 amounted to 3,580,300 units, down two percent on year-on-year basis.
