Brazilian sales of cars in July declined 22.8 percent, year-on-year, to 227,616 units, the nation’s automotive association, Anfavea, said on Thursday.
According to the trade group, sales of cars in July increased 7.1 percent in the comparison with the month prior. Auto production in July diminished 14.9 percent, year-on-year, to 215,145 units, despite the 17.8 percent increase month-on-month.
Brazilian exports of cars in July fell 40.7 percent, month-on-month, to 28,296 units, and 17.6 percent, year-on-year.
In accumulated period of January to July, Brazilian car sales reached 1.5 million units, 21 percent down, year-on-year. Following the same downtrend, output declined 18.1 percent, year-on-year, to 1.49 million units, while exports rose 10.7 percent, in the same period, to 225,305 units.
“The [nation’s] scenario continues complex, mainly due to the confidence of consumers and investors, which has been affected. While the fiscal adjustments aren’t completed, the scenario will remain particularly challenging,” said Anfavea’s president, Luiz Moan.
