Mexican wire rod prices drop

The price of domestic Mexican wire rod fell US$33/mt ex-mill during the last two weeks, to reach $685/mt ex-mill.

However, construction industry sources say the price increases are still occurring for inputs such as steel and cement, which means intermediate wire rod dealers might be inflating the prices of wire rod by up to 50 percent.

Sources say currency parity is not to blame for the price discrepancy, as most of the inputs in this sector are domestic.
