Turkey’s industrial output continues at full pelt

As per the data released by State Institute of Statistics (DIE), Turkey's industrial output surged by 14.9% in March when compared with the same period of last year. This figure is higher than market expectations. At the level of sub-sectors of industry, mining sector regressed by 3.6% while manufacturing and electric, gas and water sectors surged by 17% and 3.4% respectively when compared with the figures of March 2003. In the same period of 2003, these rates were recorded as 13.8% decrease, 5.3% increase and 10.8% increase in the above cited sectors, respectively. Output of automotive sector, non-metallic goods, chemical products and brown goods have contributed to the increase in industrial output. The most remarkable increase is witnessed in the automotive sector output. Industrial output also indicated an increase of 12.6% in the first three months of 2004 while manufacturing and electric, gas and water sectors soared by 14% and 6.3% respectively. However, 2.9% depletion is settled in mining sector.
