Turkey records strong CUR in November

According to the State Institute of Statistics data, Turkey's capacity utilization rate (CUR) reached 83.4% in November. This rate was higher than the market expectations of 81.5%. The CUR was recorded as 79.9% in November 2003 and 83% in October 2004. CUR in the public sector rose to 88.4%, mainly as a result of strong refining output as the state refiner TUPRAS has resumed production in one of its refinery. Private sector CUR slightly decreased to 79.8% in November from 80.9% recorded in October. Sub-sectors such as textile, machinery, refining, electrical machinery and paper and pulp output affected the increase in CUR. Automotive sector, which was the main contributor to the increase in industrial output throughout the year, has recorded a slight year-on-year decline in CUR. This decline is attributed to the slowdown in domestic demand.
