Hunan Province-based Chinese steelmaker Xiangtan Iron and Steel Co. (Xiangtan Steel) has announced that it produced over 100,000 mt of high-strength steel plate in 2011, while in January this year its high-strength plate output reached 15,000 mt.

Meanwhile, the steelmaker expects that its monthly high-strength plate output will reach over 20,000 mt in the second half of the current year. The gradual increase in Xiangtan Steel's production capacity of high-strength steel plate is due to the steelmaker's development of direct quenching (DQ) technology at its 5,000 mm steel plate production line.
