World pig iron output resumes uptrend in October

In October, world pig iron production resumed the upward trend which had started in April this year but which registered a slight decrease in September.

According to the data released by the World Steel Association (worldsteel), formerly the International Iron and Steel Institute (IISI), world pig iron production for the countries surveyed was 83.96 million metric tons in October, increasing by 19.75 percent year on year, and up 4.42 percent compared to September.

Meanwhile, global direct reduced iron (DRI) production in October totaled 4.68 million metric tons, increasing by 4.21 percent compared to September and down by 3.27 percent year on year. Worldsteel data show that India is the largest DRI producer among the countries surveyed, with a DRI output of 1.76 million metric tons in October, followed by Iran and Saudi Arabia, with outputs of 650,000 mt and 445,000 mt respectively.
