Vietnam’s steel exports up 27 percent in January-August

Vietnam’s steel imports in the first eight months of the current year totaled more than 13.5 million mt, declining by 22 percent, with a value of $6.99 billion, up three percent, both compared to the same period of the previous year, as announced by the Vietnam Steel Association (VSA).

Meanwhile, in the given period, Vietnam’s steel exports increased by 27 percent year on year to three million mt, with a value of nearly $2 billion, rising by 50 percent compared to the same period of 2016. The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) region remained the main export market for Vietnam, with steel exports of more than 1.4 million mt, accounting for 58 percent of the total amount of exported steel products.
