US rig count falls, but Canadian rigs improve

Baker Hughes reported Friday that for the week ending June 21, the US rig count fell by 12 from the previous week to 1,759, compared to a six-rig increase a week ago. The rig count was also down 207 rigs from the same week a year ago when active drilling rigs totaled 1,966. The oil rig count was down eight to 1,405, and the gas rig count fell by four to 349.

On the other hand, the rig count rose by 21 to 197 in Canada, marking the fifth consecutive weekly increase. Canada's rig count was still down 41 from 238 a year ago.
