Turkey's ferroalloy and basic steel product exports to the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) region in the first quarter of 2012 increased by 4.8 percent year on year to 2.2 million metric tons, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). Meanwhile, the region continued to be Turkey's main export market, accounting for 52.9 percent of its total steel product exports. However, in January-March 2011, this share was recorded at 57.3 percent.

In the January-March period of this year, Saudi Arabia ranked first among Turkey's steel product export markets, receiving double the steel product volume compared to the first quarter of 2011, while Turkey's steel product exports to the UAE and to Iran decreased significantly in the period in question.
