In 2012, Spain's total motor vehicle output amounted to 1,979,103 units, falling by 16.6 percent year on year, according to the data reported by the Spanish Automobile and Truck Manufacturers' Association (ANFAC).

ANFAC noted that the negative trend in production was broken in December 2012, with a year-on-year increase of seven percent to 118,569 units. In December, the passenger car segment recorded a rise of 12.2 percent year on year in output to 92,255 units. Meanwhile, in 2013 the association expects an increase of 11 percent year on year in Spanish motor vehicle production to a total of 2,200,000 units, mainly on the back of increased export activity to new destinations.

In 2012, 87 percent of total Spanish motor vehicle production was exported, while motor vehicle exports fell by 18.5 percent year on year to 1,729,172 units. In December, Spain's motor vehicle exports rose by almost 10 percent year on year to 105,912 units.
