In March this year, Spain's total motor vehicle output amounted to 190,670 units, falling by 24.9 percent year on year and down 10.9 percent compared to February this year, according to the data reported by the Spanish Automobile and Truck Manufacturers' Association (ANFAC).
In the given month, the Spanish passenger car segment recorded a decline of 24.3 percent year on year and of 9.3 percent month on month in output, totaling 151,428 units. In the industrial vehicle segment in March, a year-on-year decrease of 39.4 percent was recorded in output, totaling 33,903 units, down 19 percent compared to February this year.
Meanwhile, in the first quarter of 2012, Spain's total motor vehicle output amounted to 564,815 units, falling by 16 percent year on year. The association said that there is no sign of recovery symptoms in the Spanish motor vehicle market in the short term. The forecasts of production of vehicles for Spain in 2012 have been reviewed downward and it is expected that Spain's motor vehicle output will be 240,000 vehicles less than in the previous year.
The export of vehicles also suffered in the first quarter of this year, falling almost 20 percent year on year, with a total of 478,471 units sold overseas. In the January‐March period, 85 percent of the vehicles made in Spain were sold in other countries.
