Finnish steelmaker Ruukki has announced that it has developed Optim 700 MC Plus, a high-strength structural steel with improved cold-forming properties clearly exceeding the standard requirements and impact strength of other steels in the market. Ruukki said that it will launch the product at the Bauma 2010 trade fair in Munich.

A company statement said that manufacturers of crane booms, truck bodies and mobile machines can benefit from Optim 700 MC Plus's high-strength steel with excellent bending properties. The product can also be used in the manufacture of goods handling equipment, earthmoving, mining and waste handling equipment.

The steel has good impact strength, excellent engineering usability and can be more easily joined than earlier by welding, Ruukki said.
