Coal imports and exports of China fell significantly in the first half of the current year, as stated by the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) of China on August 15.

Accordingly, in the first six months of the current year coal exports from China totaled 8.75 million mt, down 13.7 percent year on year, while coal imports into China amounted to 70.49 million mt, down 11.8 percent year on year. Thus, net coal imports of China in the given period totaled 61.74 million mt, decreasing by 13 percent compared to the same period last year.

As stated by the NDRC, coal stocks at Chinese ports stand at high levels. The NDRC expects Chinese coal exports will continue to fall, while coal imports are expected to remain stable and are not likely to see any large increase in the coming months.
