In January this year, the seasonally and working-day adjusted turnover in the German
manufacturing industry fell by 0.3 percent compared to the previous month, following a revised month-on-month increase of 0.3 percent in December 2012, according to the preliminary data reported by
Germany's Federal Statistical Office (Destatis). The working day adjusted turnover in the
manufacturing sector in January 2013 was lower by three percent compared to January 2012.
In January, the greatest month-on-month turnover decrease in the German
manufacturing sector was observed in mechanical engineering with a fall of 3.8 percent. In the mechanical engineering segment, in the given month there was a 2.8 percent increase in domestic sales and a 7.5 percent fall in foreign sales.
In January, the turnover of German metal and metal product
manufacturing decreased 1.7 percent as compared to December, with domestic sales increasing by 2.7 percent, while foreign sales were down by 7.8 percent, month on month. In January, a 1.1 percent month-on-month increase was recorded in the turnover in manufacture of fabricated metal products, with domestic sales increasing 2.3 percent and foreign sales down by 1.2 percent, both compared to the previous month.
Meanwhile, in the month in question, a month-on-month fall of three percent was seen in the turnover in German manufacture of motor vehicles and motor vehicle parts. In the segment in question, in January there was a 4.4 percent turnover decrease in domestic sales and a 2.2 percent fall in foreign sales, month on month.
