France’s GDP down slightly in Q1 from Q4

France's gross domestic product (GDP) fell by 0.2 percent in the first quarter of the current year on quarter-on-quarter basis, following a similar quarter-on-quarter decrease in the fourth quarter of 2012, according to the detailed statistics released by France's National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (INSEE). In the first quarter, the country's GDP indicated its third quarter-on-quarter decrease in the last four quarters.
 
During the first quarter, in France household consumption expenditure decreased by 0.1 percent quarter on quarter, while it had indicated a 0.1 percent quarter-on-quarter increase in the fourth quarter of 2012. Meanwhile, France's import value rose 0.2 percent quarter on quarter in the first quarter after a one percent decrease in the previous quarter, while the export value fell by 0.4 percent quarter on quarter in Q1, after a 0.7 percent quarter-on-quarter decrease in the previous quarter.
