According to a statement released on January 24 by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities, the new industrial orders index in the European Union member states (EU-27) fell by 1.4 percent month on month in November 2011, after a revised month-on-month increase of 0.2 percent recorded in October. The year-on-year decrease in November 2011 was recorded at 1.2 percent in the region.
On the other hand, in November new industrial orders in the EU-27, excluding ships, railway and aerospace equipment for which changes tend to be more volatile, decreased by 1.2 percent month on month and fell by 1.5 percent year on year.
In the EU-27 in the given month, new orders fell by 2.5 percent for capital goods and by 0.3 percent for intermediate goods, while new orders rose by 0.4 percent for durable consumer goods, all compared to October.
On month-on-month basis, among the member states for which data are available, total new industrial orders fell in 9 member states and rose in 11 and remained stable in Slovenia. The largest decreases were registered in Sweden with 6.1 percent, in Germany with five percent and in Hungary and the Netherlands both with three percent, while the highest increases were seen in Latvia with 23.2 percent, in Ireland with 14.5 percent and in Romania with 6.3 percent.
