On December 2, the European Union (EU) opened a partial interim review of the antidumping (AD) measures applicable to imports of certain castings originating in China.

The measures currently in force are a definitive AD duty imposed by Council Regulation No 1212/2005 on imports of certain castings originating in China, as last amended by Council Regulation No 500/2009.

The request was lodged by Shandong Lulong Group Co Ltd, a China-based exporter of the product. The request is limited in scope to the examination of dumping as far as the applicant is concerned. The EU member states have fifteen months to conclude the investigation.

"The request is based on prima facie evidence, provided by the applicant, that, as far as the applicant is concerned, the circumstances on the basis of which the existing measures were imposed have changed and that these changes are of lasting nature," the European Commission said.

The product under review is castings of non-malleable cast iron and spheroidal graphite cast iron (ductile iron) of a kind used to cover and/or give access to ground or sub-surface systems, and parts thereof, whether or not machined, coated or painted or fitted with other materials, excluding fire hydrants, originating in China, currently falling within CN codes 7325 10 50, 7325 10 92, ex 7325 10 99 (TARIC code 7325 10 99 10), and ex 7325 99 10 (TARIC code 7325 99 10 10).
