ESTAR starts construction of UREMZ

The Russian steel producer ESTAR has held a groundbreaking ceremony for its new steel mill Uzhnorussikiy Steel Works (UREMZ).

The new mill is planned to be constructed within a three-year period on the back of a total investment of €350-370 million.

UREMZ will have an annual production capacity of 960,000 mt of crude steel. The mill will produce billets and structural steel, including beams, angles and channels. The annual production capacity of structural steel will be 900,000 mt.

The main raw material for the new mill, i.e. scrap, will be supplied by ESTAR's subsidiary Lomprom Rostov.

The main equipment for the new mill includes EAF, ladle furnace, concaster and rolling mill. Main design and base engineering of the project will be provided by engineering company CONCAST AG, member of SMS group.
